Our Company

We offer a variety of highly accurate and reliable Vehicle Detection & Classification systems. Our laser-based classification systems provide the highest scan rates available in the industry.

OSI LaserScan: A Legacy of Innovation and Growth

OSI LaserScan manufactures a range of laser scanner systems for global commercial use. As a pioneering company in advanced laser scanning technology, OSI Laserscan has developed and patented a sophisticated suite of infrared vehicle sensors. These sensors track and analyze traffic across a wide range of traffic surveillance applications.

Our Journey:

1967:
The foundation that later became OSI Systems started with the establishment of United Detector Technology (UDT). UDT was established as one of the first Schottky and Planar Silicon Photodetectors and Optical Instruments manufacturers in the United States.

1987: Opto Sensors, Inc. was founded to design and manufacture a diverse selection of optoelectronic products for various applications.

1989: Opto Sensors Singapore was established to meet the growing market demand in Southeast Asia.

1990: Opto Sensors Inc. (OSI) acquired UDT to expand its product portfolio and increase its global market share. The newly established entity became UDT Sensors Inc. This significant move combined the skills and expertise of two leading companies in the photonics and optical sensor market while maintaining both brands.

1994: Opto Sensors Malaysia was established and added to the Company’s production capacity in Southeast Asia, as the region offered lower manufacturing costs and abundant technical resources.

1997: Opto Sensors, Inc. underwent significant growth, broadening our business portfolio. This led to the company rebranding itself as OSI Systems, Inc. and becoming a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ: OSIS.

2001: We further expanded our manufacturing footprint by establishing our operations in Hyderabad, India. This site remains a crucial location for medical product manufacturing and provides engineering infrastructure support for our global operations.

2003: OSI Optoelectronics acquired the LaserScan vehicle identification and classification business and AutoSense products and technologies.

2006: The various optoelectronics brands acquired over the years were rebranded as OSI Optoelectronics to emphasize core technology and customer relationships.

2011:  OSI Optoelectronics acquired Laser Diode Inc., a leading company in laser diode technology for Aerospace and Defense and other markets, expanding our product portfolio.

2018: OSI Optoelectronics acquired Advanced Photonix, adding 30 years of experience in photonics and optoelectronics. Advanced Photonix is renowned for developing Large Area Avalanche Photodiodes (LAAPD) and other advanced optoelectronic solutions.

2020: OSI Optoelectronics acquired the assets of Semicoa, Inc., furthering our product portfolio with high-reliability semiconductor devices for military, defense, and space applications.

Our Commitment:
At Advanced Photonix, we are committed to continuous innovation, strategic growth, and upholding the highest quality standards. Our history reflects our dedication to excellence and our goal to lead the industry forward.
